Matching the design to the party
Pick the design that tells guests what kind of night it is. A Gatsby or gold confetti card says dress up, a fiesta or tropical card says come relaxed and hungry, and a wine or cocktail card says the evening is built around the drinks.
For a milestone, put the number in the headline. Thirty, forty, fifty and sixty all read well set large, and every word on the card is editable, so a sample headline like "Roaring Forty" becomes your own in a few seconds.
Want something more personal, like the guest of honor's favorite place or hobby? Describe it and AI designs a card for it. Previews are free, and keeping one costs the same as a ready-made design.
What to put on an adult birthday invitation
- Whose birthday it is, and the milestone if there is one
- The date and start time, plus an end time if the venue sets one
- The venue name and full address
- How to RSVP, and the date you need replies by
- The dress code, if there is one
- Whether the party is adults-only, and whether partners are invited
The card holds a headline, a short message, the date and time, the location and an RSVP line. A dress code or an adults-only note usually fits in the message. Anything longer, like parking or a no-gifts request, can go in the text or email you send the card with.
Planning a surprise party
Say it on the card. "It's a surprise" in the message keeps a well-meaning guest from mentioning the party to the birthday person.
Put your own name and number on the RSVP line, not the guest of honor's, and ask guests to arrive 15 to 30 minutes before the birthday person so everyone is in place.
Send the invitation to guests directly, by text, email or mail, rather than posting it anywhere the guest of honor might see it.
When to send it
Three to four weeks ahead is the usual window for an adult birthday. For a milestone party, a weekend away or anything guests travel for, send it six weeks ahead, or send a save the date first.
Ask for replies one to two weeks before, depending on when the venue or caterer needs a final count.
Every card comes as a print-ready 5×7 PDF and a high-resolution JPG. You can mail printed cards to some guests and text the same design to everyone else.
