Choosing a design
The ink-drawn table is the most versatile: understated enough for a supper club, a housewarming or a birthday dinner. The Italian supper design, drawn in terracotta, suits a pasta night or a family-style meal, and the al fresco design, with grapevines over green hills, suits an outdoor dinner on a summer evening.
A proper invitation sets the tone in a way a group chat message does not. It tells guests the evening is planned, which is often all a dinner party needs to feel like an occasion.
Planning something else, like a wine tasting or a holiday meal? Describe it and AI designs a card for it. Previews are free, and keeping one costs the same as a ready-made design.
What to put on a dinner party invitation
- The host's name, and the occasion if there is one
- The date, the time guests should arrive, and when dinner is served if it's later
- The address, plus a buzzer number or parking note for an apartment
- How to RSVP, and the date you need replies by
- A dress code, if it isn't obvious
- Whether guests should bring anything, from a bottle of wine to a dish
The card holds a headline, a short message, the date and time, the location and an RSVP line. Ask about allergies and dietary restrictions when guests reply, or in the message you send with the card.
When to send it
Two to three weeks ahead suits most dinner parties. A casual supper with close friends can go out a week before; a formal dinner, or anything on a holiday weekend, deserves three to four weeks.
Ask for replies about a week before, which gives you time to plan the menu and shop.
With a small guest list, a reminder text the day before is welcome, and saves cooking for someone who forgot.
Print it or send it
Every card comes as a print-ready 5×7 PDF and a high-resolution JPG. For most dinner parties, texting the JPG is the norm. Printed cards are a lovely touch for a formal dinner or a supper club, and a spare can stand on the table on the night.
Turn on the free RSVP page and guests reply online with how many people they're bringing, so you know exactly how many places to set.
